Samurai Maiden: 10 minutes gameplay of anime shredding

In addition to space horror with The Callisto Protocol, the remake of Dead Space or Routine, venerable samurai and feudal Japan seem to be the most popular topics in the gaming world at the moment.

After hits like Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, games like Like a Dragon: Ishin and Rise of the Ronin await us in the future. But because the two are still a little long in coming, thanks to Samurai Maiden there is already a Japan adventure to bridge the time on December 8th.

Samurai Maiden: New trailer shows combat system and story missions

With a new trailer, developer studio SHADE inc. now ten minutes of gameplay from Geschnetzel in sweet anime optics. As Tsumugi Tamaori, who is catapulted straight from our present to Sengoku-era Japan (i.e. circa late 15th century), you slaughter your way through hordes of monsters.

You will encounter creatures from Japanese mythology, such as flying skulls or the slimy creatures known as Umi-Bozu, as well as the skeletons of deceased soldiers. The gameplay trailer shows both Tsumugi’s active commitment and that of her three companions Iyo, Hagane and Komimi, with whom depending on your affection it can be friendly or romantic on the battlefield.

As the trailer also reveals, the story seems to be divided into different story chapters or missions, where you beat your way through the respective levels and at the end get a rating for your time, the enemies you defeated and the treasures you collected.

In addition to the anime style, era and creature designs, the Japanese influence can also be seen in the design of the settings: trap-filled temples, hot springs and pink cherry blossoms await you on December 8th when Samurai Maiden for the PC, the PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as the Nintendo Switch will be released.
