Sony places PlayStation 6 launch after 2027

After some recent statements on the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, Sony has revealed something that is supposed to reveal in a couple of years, at least, that the company has plans for a PlayStation 6 in the future, but one very close.

Although Sony didn’t reveal any official release year for the upcoming system, it did give a pretty much a window for its release. In the statement, Sony revealed that Microsoft had offered it a deal to bring call of duty to PlayStation platforms until 2027. According to Sony, this cut would prevent the next PlayStation from getting Call of Duty.

“By the time SIE releases the next generation of its PlayStation console (which is likely to be around [REDACTADO]would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles, which would make it extremely vulnerable to consumer change and the subsequent degradation of its competitiveness.

This would mean that the next generation of PlayStation is likely planned for release well after 2027, indicating that Sony expects the PS5 to stick around for another 7-8 year cycle, just like the PS3 and PS4. This, of course, is in stark contrast to previous console generations, which typically only lasted five years.
