The Callisto Protocol is getting a ton of content in the Season Pass and that worries me

Hopefully, when The Callisto Protocol comes out on December 2nd, we’ll be treated to a well-choreographed survival scary-fest in the style of the first Dead Space. Whether the premiere title of Striking Distance Studios can actually reach the class of the obvious role model remains to be seen, of course, but Callisto already has one thing ahead of his father in spirit.

Because unlike Dead Space in 2008, you can also get a Season Pass for Callisto Protocol if you wish, which gives the game a lot of new content even after the launch. Exactly what those are has now been announced and the content list includes:

  • Outer Way Skin Collection: Equip main character Jacob with a new suit
  • Watch Tower Skin Collection: 13 new death animations
  • Contagion Bundle: New mode “Contagion” with less ammo and health boosts as well as permadeath
  • Riot Bundle: New horde mode “Riot” in which hordes of enemies must be repelled

In addition, there will also be a story DLC in the future, and according to the development team, all content should come over the next year.

So that there is no wrong impression here: Of course, I’m looking forward to and also to the additional content, after all, the new modes in particular should keep The Callisto Protocol interesting even after the story has been completed.

Tobias Veltin

When Dead Space came out in 2008, Tobi changed the way he looked at the horror genre. Because seldom has he felt such an intense atmosphere, was so captured by it as in Visceral Games’ masterpiece. The Callisto Protocol has made no secret of its similarity to Dead Space since its announcement, which is why Tobi’s expectations for the title are already pretty high.

Lack of focus?

And yet I worry. Because when I look at the list of content and see “new skins and animations” in particular, I have the feeling that this is not a survival horror game for solo players, but some random multiplayer game. title.

It seems to me that too much emphasis is already being placed on the future, even though the foundation – the game itself – hasn’t even come out yet. And this is where my next concern comes into play: does Callisto even deliver the quality that makes me come back for new content even after the playthrough?

All of this cannot be answered at the moment, which is why my worries may of course be unfounded. But I had expected one thing from The Callisto Protocol above all: the concentration on survival horror in the style of Dead Space, which I love so much, which was so successful at the time, among other things, precisely because of this focus – without much fanfare around it.

At Callisto I read buzzwords like “skins” and “season pass” even before the release and I fear that focusing on the actual core game could possibly be neglected. Because this is exactly where Callisto has to deliver and show what it’s capable of – only then does additional content become interesting at all.

What do you say: Do you think Tobi’s concerns are justified?
