The Witcher 3 in the next-gen update: all the innovations at a glance

In addition to the rather rare fresh content, the focus with the next-gen update of The Witcher 3 is primarily on technical improvements and a renewal of the somewhat outdated operating options, which should particularly please controller users.

New generation, new graphics

When it came to the graphical improvements, the developers aimed to make The Witcher 3 significantly better with the next-gen update, while still making the players of the original version feel like their beloved role-playing game, his Release already celebrated in 2015. The following optimizations were made:

  • improved textures
  • optical optimizations regarding landscapes or buildings
  • FSR 2.1 and DLSS 3
  • ray tracing
  • optimized screen space reflections

The exclusive trailer for the next-gen update of The Witcher 3 impressively shows what the whole thing should look like in the end:

Greater variety of functions

The graphical improvements are joined by a whole series of fresh functions that should offer us either a little easier operation or simply a greater choice.

  • in-house photo mode
  • new camera options
  • adaptive triggers for controller users
  • Quality of Life improvements when using characters in combat
  • improved overview on the world map thanks to the filter function
  • Integrate preselected modifications from the start
  • Cross-platform progress system with synchronized scores (cross-progression)

There should even be some new content for The Witcher 3

Although there is some stinginess with completely new storylines, dramatic twists or even previously unused abilities, the developers are still giving The Witcher 3’s next-gen update a few new contents that fans of the Netflix series adaptation should definitely like.

After successfully completing a quest that finds its way into the game with the update, Witcher Geralt slips into the faithful equipment that Witcher actor Henry Cavill also wears in the series. Incidentally, the latter recently announced that he would no longer be available for the fourth season of The Witcher series. Instead of him, fellow actor Liam Hemsworth will take on the honorable task of embodying one of the most exciting fantasy characters ever.

Aside from the armor and swords we should recognize from the first two seasons, there will be brand new outfits for the Knights of Nilfgard and the bard Dandelion, who is one of Geralt’s closest confidants. Additionally, expect some minor issues from the past to be addressed with The Witcher 3’s next-gen update.
