Otto’s chilling shark head find raised a lot of questions among attendees and viewers alike. Now a biologist explains the incident.

Panama – The fourth episode of 7 vs. Wild caused a bitter aftertaste with Otto’s finding of a shark head. The ex-soldier found several dead young sharks in a river bed on the Panamanian island. The suspicion quickly arose that these might not be natural remains of sea creatures. The community’s sad suspicion has now been confirmed on YouTube by marine biologist and environmentalist Robert Marc Lehmann.

7 vs. Wild: Robert Marc Lehmann on the shark carcass find – “It pisses me off”

That’s what it’s about: The second season of 7 vs. Wild takes place on a tropical island in Panama. With these words, everyone has white beaches and turquoise sea in mind. However, the facade of the tropical paradise is crumbling, because in addition to all the garbage on the island, one participant now made a particularly sad discovery. Ottogerd Karasch discovered several shark carcasses in 7 vs. Wild. In the meantime, the biologist Robert Marc Lehmann spoke up and gave his professional assessment.

It is immediately clear to Robert that these are not the remains of a crocodile meal, but the remains of the shark fishery. The fact that almost only heads remained is a classic indication of shark catching. “The fishermen have the body and the dorsal fin, that’s what they exploit”. Although Otto’s pictures are not a pretty sight, they do not come as a surprise to the marine biologist.

Panama is not known as a shark-friendly nation […] Sharks are caught in Panama.

The biologist doesn’t have a good word for the coastal state either, because shark fishing hasn’t been regulated in Panama for years, so scenes like this are part of everyday life there. “Totally unsustainable, there’s super corruption, there’s shark finning, there’s massive shark fishing, and it’s a country that doesn’t care about its ocean”.

Therefore particularly dramatic: The particularly terrible thing, however, is that the sharks in the video are still young sharks, which also affects the environmentalist very much. Because hunting baby sharks can lead to a drastic decline in the respective shark species. “They are all juvenile animals, which means these sharks have not reproduced and that is where the big problem lies”.

7 vs. Wild: Scary pictures on the island – biologist gives a ray of hope

The bright spot: Even if Robert Marc Lehmann “pukes” to see these pictures, he also has good news for his viewers. The Cites conference took place in Panama from November 14th to 25th and in this some new shark species were placed under species protection.

Be sad about it, but also know that a big change is taking place

The marine biologist himself is also making his contribution to this major change. Because with the “Mission Earth” project, he is committed to protecting the environment and species worldwide. In his last live stream of 7 vs. Wild, Robert raised 100,000 euros in donations after a fan asked viewers to donate. In the future, such eerie images could be a thing of the past. In the next episodes 7 vs. Wild we will see how Otto continues after his cadaver find.
