In Crimson and Crimson, Pokémon no longer get sick – and that’s a shame

The Pokérus helped Pokémon level up, but no longer in Pokémon Crimson.

The Pokérus helped Pokémon level up, but no longer in Pokémon Crimson/Crimson.

Catching a Pokémon infected with Pokérus was even rarer than winning the lottery or the chance of catching a Shiny. This disease has existed since Pokémon Silver & Gold and appears randomly in the game.

But it seems that the Pokémon from Pokémon Crimson & Crimson have a more stable immune system than the Pokémon generations up to Sword & Shield. Because in the Paldea region, Pokérus seems to have died out.

What happened? Dataminer mattyoukhana has now found that the Pokerus has completely disappeared from the Pokemon Crimson source code. It is therefore no longer possible to encounter infected Pokémon in the wild:

What is the Pokerus? As a result of being infected with the disease, the affected Pokémon gets a double boost to their status values (HP, attack, …) when they level up, which increase with each level-up. Thus, the Pokémon trains faster than healthy pocket monsters. In other words: The Pokérus is not dangerous, but basically the best thing that can happen to your monsters.

The disease is randomly transmitted to your team when you fight a wild Pokémon that has the virus and add it to your team. However, the chance of getting infected with the Pokemon is less than encountering a Shiny Pokemon.

The development team responsible may have decided to abolish the disease for future generations as well, so that we no longer get an advantage when leveling our Pokémon, and of course that’s a pity in a way. Especially since it used to be a sense of achievement when a Pokémon on the team caught Pokérus, simply because the disease is so damn rare.

So if you want to train your Pokémon faster and better, you have to use other methods. For example, you can use Auto Battle to level up your Pokémon faster. However, in auto-battle you can of course only increase the level of your Pokémon more efficiently, but not boost the values of your monsters like in Pokérus.
