Pokémon Poll: Open World or Linear – What kind of world do you wish for the next editions?

An open world in Pokémon - yes or no?

An open world in Pokémon – yes or no?

With Crimson & Purple, Nintendo and Game Freak have given us the first Pokémon editions with a real open world. The open Paldea region invites exploration and feels even more real with the free-roaming Pokémon. The new found freedom also lets us proceed as we want, even if the level system imposes certain limits.

However, not everything runs smoothly in the open world. The world is nowhere near as meaningfully filled with tasks as it could be. Above all, the cities with the non-accessible shops have a scenic effect.

In addition, there is a poor technical implementation, which is not exactly good for the world visually either. And while a lot of freedom sounds tempting, we’re used to the linear paths in Pokémon-Spiel, which is why many Trainers* impose them on themselves, for example through an arena order that is similar to that of the other editions as the level increases.

This trailer introduces you to the open world of Paldea:

So the question arises: Is the open world really necessary in a Pokémon game like Crimson & Crimson? Does it really add value for the editions or does a linear game world, as we are used to it, not make more sense?

The Future of Pokémon Worlds – Vote!

Vote and write us your reasoning on the topic in more detail in the comments.

You can read more about crimson & crimson and why the open world was well-intentioned but not implemented well in Linda’s GamePro test:

In order not to lose track in the large open world, there is an interactive map with which you can filter Pokémon, arenas and items, for example. You can read more about this in “Interactive map shows all Pokémon, items and locations”.

So: Vote diligently and tell us your reasons in the comments. We are excited.
