7 vs Wild Season 2 is hugely successful, but the event almost didn’t happen. Only a few hours before drop-off, the start was still on the brink.

Isla San Jose, Panama – When you think of YouTube right now, you inevitably think of 7 vs. Wild. The survival event by and with Fritz Meinecke has entered its second season and is attracting millions of fans with every new episode. However, the renewed success of 7 vs. Wild almost never happened. New behind-the-scenes footage shows how the season two launch almost got canceled – just hours before contestants were suspended.

7 vs. Wild: Cancellation comes 15 hours before drop-off – chaos behind the scenes

What happened? The launch of Season 2 of 7 vs. Wild should start with a bang. Where in the first season the candidates had to swim from a simple boat to their spots, this time there should be a big jump from a helicopter. This involved an enormous amount of effort for the organizers of the series. The new DAVE Behind The Scenes even shows how the Panamanian Vice Minister of Tourism met with the team to pledge them support through national funds. So far so good.

Then there were problems with the drop-off. Before the start of the season, Johannes Hövekamp, Max Kovacs and the rest of the team had extensively tested how the jump from the helicopter would work in 7 vs. Wild. The team had even attempted to be covered for all circumstances. Everything seemed to be in safe hands until local authorities canceled the drop-off just 15 hours before the start.

Why was the drop off cancelled? The cancellation was completely unexpected for the organizers – and above all incomprehensible. “Everything we have been discussing with the helicopter pilots for three months is now no longer possible“ explains Johannes Hövekamp in the video. The flight time of the helicopters would not even be a quarter of what was previously agreed, the showrunner continues. There were also several safety concerns about the candidates’ bounce. But all was not lost, even if time was of the essence.

7 vs. Wild: The solution to the heli problem put a lot of pressure on the money – but the series was saved

How did the organizers save the start? Inevitably, the 7 vs. Wild team had to shell out some extra cash to secure the start of Season 2. A helicopter flight then turned into a flight to the island with a change to three helicopters, which were then supposed to release the participants. Hövekamp seems to be affected by the extra work and stress in the video: “It’s slowly dawning on me why the vast majority of survival productions are fake.At least the start was secured, a full 10 hours before the jump.

After all, the second season of 7 vs. Wild is now in the can and now fans can enjoy the survival antics of Fritz, Nova, Knossi and Co. Otherwise there would not have been situations like Knossi’s burning tree in 7 vs. Wild, with which he actually only wanted to light a cigarette.
