TES Morrowind: 20 Year Mod Tamriel Rebuilt gets a big update

from Jonathan Harsh
With the mod “Tamriel Rebuilt”, which has been in development for 20 years, the game world of the role-playing game is to be gradually expanded. A new update now adds two more regions.

For many fans, The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind is still the best game in the series, even if the successors Oblivion and Skyrim were able to reach a much wider audience. The bulkiness is also the appeal of the role-playing game from 2002. The title is now twenty years old, and part of the community has been working on the “Tamriel Rebuilt” mod for just as long, the aim of which is to conquer the mainland of the Morrowind region to the title, which in its vanilla form is only set on the large island of Vvardenfell.

These are the new areas for TES: Morrowind

As of this week, two new regions are available for Tamriel Rebuilt: Dominions of Dust and Embers of Empire. The update can be found on the official mod page be downloaded. The game areas and their contents are briefly presented:

Dominions of Dust: A contested wasteland with many rocks and narrow canyons. To the west, bordering Cyrodiil, rise the snow-capped peaks of the Velothi Mountains, where the Dwemer once ruled. Only the hardiest now venture into its hidden valleys. Finally, to the south lie the implacable Armun Ashlands, a land still ravaged by the eruption of Red Mountain.

This content brings Dominions of Dust:

  • 314 plots of new land
  • Over 120 new quests, including two different quest lines for the Tribunal Temple, quest lines for House Hlaalu, Morag Tong, the Imperial Legion and the Fighter and Mage Guilds, as well as countless different adventures
  • The city of Andothren, one of the most important trading ports of the Dunmer
  • Two new Ashlander clans, complete with their own quests
  • A new vampire clan to join – the Orlukh
  • About 415 new, highly detailed interiors – buildings, ruins and caves – filled with NPCs or enemies

Embers of Empire: A reimagining of Imperial settlements on the Telvanni Peninsula. The residents of Firewatch, the paranoid Imperial capital of Telvanni, hold fast to their loyalty to the Emperor even as the Septim Empire itself finds itself on the brink.

This content offers Embers of Empire:

  • A complete makeover and expansion of Firewatch
  • A complete reconstruction and reimagining of the Imperial trading city of Helnim
  • The island of Althoa, including the addition of a Telvanni tower and the Nivalis Imperial Navy outpost
  • A rebuild of the western Telvanni wilderness areas now referred to as the Dagon Urul region
  • A complete overhaul of all quests in the affected areas and adding dozens of new ones, for a total of around 80 quests
  • A complete makeover of almost all of the existing interiors and the addition of dozens of new ones

In addition to the new content, there are also a number of bug fixes. Meanwhile, the work of the modders is far from finished. Only about half of the mainland map is accessible with the new update. So there is still a lot to do, even if the mod already offers about as many missions and content as the main game including the DLCs. Next up are the Thirr Valley, Sundered Scar, and Shipal-Shin regions.
