The shooter “Gene Shift Auto” is a GTA-inspired battle royale with roguelike elements. It is currently in Early Access on Steam. The game’s multiplayer has been free to play since November 28, 2022.

What is Gene Shift Auto game? The game is a PvPvE battle royale inspired by GTA. The player is thrown into a chaotic city and can let off steam with various skills. Gene Shift Auto delivers roguelike style battles, missions and chases.

What is the gameplay like in Gene Shift Auto? The setting is a Mayhem City, as known from GTA. You have to be careful of both other players and cops.

Skills are randomly generated each round, so you never know what to expect beforehand and you have to be flexible in your playstyle.

As you progress through the game, you unlock additional skills and each time you level up you get the choice between 3 random skills, such as:

• protective shield
• bullet time
• plasma ball
• Bouncing bullets

Another important factor that decides between life and death in a match is your loot. Within the game world you go in search of the best weapon to survive the finale in Battle Royale mode.

A round lasts only 5 minutes, which is why the game is particularly suitable for a quick match in between. The playing area gets smaller and smaller over time, so sooner or later you will meet other players. You have to win 3 rounds in a row to win the game.

If you die, you can still take part in the match: as a zombie. If you kill another player as an undead, you can revive yourself.

How do players rate Gene Shift Auto? The game has very positive reviews on Steam. Out of a total of 2,098 reviews, 80% are good (as of November 29, 2022, via Steam).

How is Gene Shift Auto funded? On November 28, 2022, the developers of Gene Shift Auto announced on Steamthat the game is now available for free. More precisely, the multiplayer mode is now playable for free.

Single player/co-op survival mode is unlocked for those who own the Deluxe Edition DLC. That was the case before multiplayer was changed to free-to-play.

There is a note from the developer: “Anyone who has already spent real money on the game in the past should automatically have the Deluxe Edition in their Steam account. This one is worth $15 just like the game before. So no one will lose money from this change. If you don’t have the DLC, please contact me via Discord or the Steam forums as soon as possible.

Anyone who received the game as part of a free promotion in the past will still be able to play it for free, with the same features as before […]”

The Deluxe Edition includes additional game content alongside the single player campaign and is currently on sale with a 20% discount. You currently pay €11.83 instead of €14.79 (as of November 29, 2022).
