The biggest WoW streamer on Twitch returns to its main channel after 5 months - directly 200,000 viewers

Asmongold is a well-known figure in World of Warcraft and on Twitch. He’s the biggest streamer on the MMORPG on the platform in the world, but has withdrawn from his main channel for months – out of fear, he says. Now, with the release of Dragonflight, he shows himself again and immediately has hundreds of thousands of viewers.

Who is the streamer?

Twitch star Asmongold is annoyed by viewers: “Stop pretending that streamers are your friends”

This was the first stream in 5 months: On November 29th at midnight the new expansion Dragonflight for World of Warcraft was released. Asmongold was there live and this time on his main channel.

Shortly before the release, around 11 p.m. German time, the stream reached its peak. 201,298 people watched Asmongold await the release of Dragonflight (via sullygnome). For comparison: his second channel zackrawrr peaked at a maximum of 78,179 viewers last year.

He showed some of the great cinematics from the past, looked back at old content and chatted with his chat. He then entered the new world just in time for the starting shot, and for the most part without the major problems that many players were struggling with.

However, in one of the highlights of his stream, the streamer retold the story of the now-old Shadowlands expansion, which is (finally) coming to an end with the release of Dragonflight, in simple but cynical terms.

In the video we show you the life and success of Asmongold:

Asmongold retells Shadowlands and the audience laughs

Shadowlands is commonly considered one of the most disliked expansions for many reasons, including too much grind and an incoherent story. Especially the story and the way it was told was repeatedly criticized.

Asmongold was asked by his chat shortly before the release of Dragonflight to briefly summarize the Shadowlands story:

Once upon a time there were these guys and they made these robots. And one of those robots was an asshole. So they put this robot in jail. And they replaced that robot with another robot. Guess? He didn’t like that.

So then there was this elf that the robot could somehow talk to and convince her to break him out of the robot prison. And after he got out of robot jail, he had to, somehow, get a ball from the current robot that replaced him – or was replaced by.

And then he used the ball, which made him, uh, I think more powerful or some shit. I don’t know. Anyway, he got really powerful. So unstoppable level from powerful so no one could stop him. And then we stopped him and that’s the end. Yeah, that’s pretty much what happened. […]

Oh, and then there was this other guy, this vampire dude, who doesn’t like wearing shirts that much. He had a house, we broke into it and killed him.

Asmongold on his stream

In a quiz, Asmongold proved that he is a real expert when it comes to WoW issues. But how accurate the retelling is remains to be seen. His chat celebrates Asmongold’s narrative with heaps of laughing faces.

It remains to be seen how well the Dragonflight story can ultimately surpass the end of Shadowlands. At least the gameplay can convince many, including MeinMMO demon Cortyn:
