Ubisoft has unveiled Lost Between Worlds, a new expansion for Far Cry 6 that will take players into a fractured alien version of Yara when it launches on December 6.

The surreal alien action of Lost Between Worlds begins when Far Cry 6 protagonist Dani Rojas inadvertently stumbles upon a crashed alien ship inhabited by an Alein AI known as an FAI. Unfortunately for Dani, the FAI immediately seals off the surrounding area and demands that they embark on a quest to recover five crystals needed to repair their ship, each hidden in a mysterious rift containing a fractured simulation of Yara.

There are familiar places twisted in a surreal architectural kaleidoscope, others submerged in the depths of water, and others ravaged by endless thunderstorms. Each rift features multiple routes through orange and purple portals, and players will need to use their combat, parkour, and puzzle skills to fight their way through and retrieve the crystal housed in each one.

Combat is also a bit different to the norm of Far Cry 6 in Lost Between Worlds, using a color-matching mechanic that has players switch between red and blue ammo on the fly to take down enemies of the same color.

According to details shared on the Ubisoft live stream, Lost Between Worlds seems to have a rogue-like feel to it, as players need to traverse rifts more than once, becoming stronger and receiving new equipment with each successfully retrieved crystal.

Finding sparkles within a rift allows players to jump to that point in the future, and acquiring keys like the Rift Key will allow them to open doors in each rift to create shortcuts that persist through subsequent runs. Similarly, players can unlock a fractal bomb, capable of piercing through glass walls to reveal new hidden weapons and items, plus a grappling hook for additional traversal options.
