Goodbye Volcano High: Narratives Adventure is shifting, but there’s a sign of life

Goodbye Volcano High was announced more than two years ago and the adventure, in which the characters are portrayed as dinosaurs, should have been released long ago.

However, developer KO_OP put a cloak of silence around the quite unusual game after the announcement. At the end of the year there is now another sign of life in the form of a new trailer. At the same time, the studio is pushing the release further back.

Goodbye Volcano High: A Story of Acceptance and Growing Up

Goodbye Volcano High was originally announced during the PlayStation 5 reveal and it really stood out there with its visual style and characters. It was supposed to be released in 2021, but the KO_OP studio couldn’t keep to the plan. Instead, the developers postponed the game and decided to overhaul the story. Since then, the project has been pretty quiet.

The game will not be discontinued at the end of 2022, but is still in development. The core narrative themes of “personal growth, acceptance, and the strength of the community” remain an integral part of Goodbye Volcano High. A new trailer gives a little insight into the current status of the adventure:

Goodbye Volcano High focuses on Fang and life’s final decisions just as you learn the world is about to end. As a player, you decide what becomes of Fang: Are you enjoying the last few days intensively with your friends? are you writing a song Do you confess your true feelings to your crush? Or is the depressing prospect pulling you down?

Depending on how you decide in the course of Goodbye Volcano High, there should be corresponding effects. How far-reaching these are remains to be seen.

Not released until 2023

Apart from the new trailer, there is also new information about the planned release of the narrative adventure. In 2022, unsurprisingly, nothing will happen anymore, but now Goodbye Volcano High is scheduled for release in summer 2023.

Nothing has changed on the platforms in the meantime. Furthermore, the PC (via Steam), the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 are served. So far there are no plans to bring the Xbox and Nintendo consoles to the table.
