Skill professions in WoW Dragonflight - This is how it works faster

With WoW: Dragonflight comes a lot of fresh wind to Azeroth. The MMORPG wants to reinvent itself and so the professions get a long overdue update. The system promises more depth and should keep players happy in the long term. We explain to you how it works.

What’s new? In Dragonflight, each primary profession has its own talent tree. There you can unlock new recipes, skills or improvements, for example. As you progress through the talent trees, larger bonuses become available.

You can decide whether you want to produce items of the highest quality or rather increase your efficiency, for example by learning to produce more items from a certain number of raw materials. Before you start collecting, however, you should take a look here: WoW is giving you a bag with 34 slots, perfect for all collectors.

Note, however, that these skill trees are only available for primary professions. There is no comparable system for fishing, cooking and archeology at the moment.

How do I progress in the profession talent trees? Similar to the talent trees for your class, you have to invest points in the talent points for professions. You get these Knowledge Points from a variety of different activities. Some of these are one-time rewards, others come from sources you have repeat access to.

But don’t worry, you don’t have to rush headlong into the knowledge point grind. Rather, the system is designed in such a way that you get the points automatically over time. Still, there are a handful of tricks you can use to get a little head start right at the start of the expansion.

Note, however, that at this time there is no way to get a refund for Knowledge Points that have been spent. So choose carefully!

With knowledge points to become a master craftsman

What is already known about knowledge points?

  • In order to use Knowledge Points, you must first get your profession to level 25.
  • You can start collecting Knowledge Points as soon as you enter the Dragon Isles. However, some will only become available in the course of the expansion.
  • Knowledge points are profession-specific. So if you find an item that rewards you with Alchemy knowledge points, you cannot use it to increase your Tailoring knowledge.
  • There are different methods of gaining Knowledge Points for different professions. It is also very likely that more methods will be added as the expansion progresses.

This is how you collect knowledge points for your professions

There are several methods you can use to increase your knowledge for professions. Some are one-time rewards, while others come from repeatable quests, for example. For some professions, some knowledge points can be collected early on, while other professions take a little longer until you get knowledge points.

recipes

The first time you craft an item using a new recipe, you gain 1 Knowledge Point, 5 Artisan’s Alacrity, and Experience Points. Artisan’s Alacrity is a crafting material required for many recipes on the Dragon Isles.

Collect

You get a knowledge point the first time you mine a resource. There is one point for each basic resource and then an additional knowledge point for modified resources. The system can be easily understood using the example of mining: You get a knowledge point when you mine drakonium ore for the first time. You get another Knowledge Point when you mine rich Drakonium Ore for the first time.

Unfortunately, furriers don’t have it that easy. She cannot gain knowledge points by skinning. But don’t worry, that will change once you have access to world quests.

  • For? Gathering Professions
  • Repeatable? no

Rare Commodities

If you go in search of raw materials, with a bit of luck you can find special, rare raw materials. These are consumable items that provide either 1 or 3 knowledge points.

You can use the items that give you a knowledge point as often as you find them. The items that reward you with 3 knowledge points are much rarer. You can only find one of these items per week.

  • For? Gathering Professions
  • Repeatable? Yes

Hidden master craftsmen

Scattered throughout the Dragon Isles are Master Craftsmen just waiting to be discovered. They don’t offer any quests, but they will reward you with a whopping 5 or 10 Knowledge Points and 50 Artisan’s Alacrity if you talk to them about your profession. Find, click, choose dialog option and collect reward. You must be at least Profession Level 25 to receive the rewards.

Dragon Shards of Knowledge

The Dragon Shards of Knowledge are rewards you get for completing quests and treasures like the Expedition Scout Pack. The items themselves do not give knowledge points, they must first be turned in to the NPC “Khadin” in the “Plains of Ohn’ahra”. First, however, you must complete a quest line that begins with Miguel Heller in the Plains of Ohn’ahra. You get 1 knowledge point for each dragon shard of knowledge.

You will also get 10 Dragon Shards each for completing the Dragon Island Crafting Order Apprentice, Dragon Island Crafting Order Journeyman, and Dragon Island Crafting Order Master achievements. To do this, you must complete 100, 250 and 500 crafting orders.

Draconic treatises

  • For? All Gathering and Crafting Professions

Dusty charts

You can purchase “Dusty Diagrams” for your respective professions from Rabul, the Quartermaster of the Artisan Consortium. These give a whopping 15 knowledge points! However, they are becoming increasingly expensive. First, they cost 100 units of Artisan’s Alacrity, then the next diagram costs you 150 units. From the third you have to shell out 200 Artisan’s Alacrity.
