Pokémon Crimson/Crimson: This happens when you hit Shinys in auto battle

You can use the auto-battle function without any worries, because no Shinys will be killed.

You can use the auto-battle function without any worries, because no Shinys will be killed.

In Pokémon Crimson & Crimson you can release the first member of your team from his ball to accompany you through Paldea. It can then not only pick up items for you, but also fight wild pocket monsters on its own. In advance, fans were afraid that coveted shinys would be accidentally defeated. But the concern is unfounded. In very specific cases, you can even get a small benefit from the mechanic.

Your Pokémon refuse to attack Shinys

By pressing “R”, you let your Pokémon out of its ball in the open game world. If it messes with wild animals, it can be damaged and return to you exhausted, but it can also win and receive a few experience points and materials in return – so, like when you get involved in the fight yourself.

If you want to recall your companion monsters, press “ZR”. However, you don’t have to do this for fear that your pocket monster will kill a rare Shiny before you get a chance to catch it.

Luckily, your Pokémon refuse to attack Shinys in Auto Battles. For example, in this video you can see how the knilz that the player sends defeats several wild Volti lambs, but stops short of the shiny version of the sheep monster.

This has another advantage

It’s very reassuring that the developers use this to prevent extremely annoying kills, but you can even use the mechanic to your advantage in very specific situations. Some Pokémon species look confusingly similar to the normal version as Shiny. This is the case with Zwieps, for example.

The difference can hardly be seen with the naked eye. But if you send out your Pokémon and it refuses to fight, you can be sure that it is actually a Shiny.
