The Callisto Protocol in the test overview: Reviews were rarely so divided
The trade press disagrees as to whether The Callisto Protocol is top or flop.
With The Callisto Protocol, a real horror shocker awaits us at the end of the year before we continue in 2023 with the Dead Space Remake. In fact, developer Glen Schofield, the creator of Callisto, also worked on the original Dead Space titles, which can hardly be overlooked due to the many parallels.
But can The Callisto Protocol keep up with Dead Space? The test embargo has fallen and the trade press was able to give their opinion on the horror shooter. And one thing becomes clear: the gap among journalists has rarely been so great.

With around 40 reviews, The Callisto Protocol ends up in the upper third of the scale. But most reviews do not end up with 75, but either over 90 or under 60 points. The ratings are wide-ranging, ranging from horror highlights to major disappointments.
This makes The Callisto Protocol worse than most parts of the Dead Space series. Depending on the platform, the trilogy scored between 76 and 90 points.

It’s good: The trade press consistently praises the atmospheric atmosphere. The horror shooter fulfills all expectations on this point and leaves the testers breathless. The detailed graphics add to the chilling mood, leaving a sense of fear, doubt and gloom.

The Callisto Protocol in the test: Big disappointment instead of a horror highlight
This is bad: In the test ratings, the gameplay in particular comes off badly, which is described as too monotonous. The fights should feel the same for hours and hardly show any development. Almost all testers also criticize that the melee is sluggish and the story is cliched.
There are also some audio errors in the German version. So there are problems with the German soundtrack and the lip synchronization. But these are bugs that could be fixed with a patch.
