WoW: Level up a monk to level 70 – level guide with talent selection, gameplay & more

As a Windwalker Monk, you can use these talents to reach the new maximum level of 70 in no time at all. The talent distribution offers high group damage, so you can always attack several opponents at the same time.

The new Dragonflight expansion is just around the corner! Up to the new maximum level of 70, as a monk, you swing your fists again, roll around or whirl around wildly. The fastest and most elegant way to do this is with the Windwalker – the damage specialization of the monk. Hardly any other class is as fast and packs as many mobility magics as the Windwalker Monk.

He also has high burst damage, allowing him to knock down enemies with just a few kicks and punches. Even large groups of enemies are no problem with abilities like Spinning Crane Kick and Fists of Fury! If you’ve overdone yourself, the Windwalker has up to four defensive cooldowns and several healing spells up its sleeve. In the following we show you a strong talent distribution for leveling and explain how you use your skills and cooldowns.

Monk talents for the level phase at level 70

The big highlight of Dragonflight are the new talent trees. You can always change your talents as you wish. And you should also use this opportunity when leveling up to familiarize yourself with the various talents and combinations. There is no such thing as a perfect distribution of talent for a monk. Namely, the Monk talent tree offers various support abilities that shine in different situations.

Windwalker Level Stage Talents to Copy/Import:

In the Windwalker talent tree, you can always choose between more single target damage or more group damage. In the picture above you can see a talent distribution, with which you can also transport larger groups of opponents across the Jordan in a flash. Below we show you the highlights of the two talent trees that you should unlock first when leveling.

First you go through Tiger Rush and Detox to Ferocity of Xuen. After that you unlock the healing talents to activate the next section. Here you choose Swift Feet and Improved Touch of Death before unlocking the other talents. In the last third, you quickly go down via Deathly Touch to Summon White Tiger Statue and then unlock the rest in any order.

collect orbs!
Each defeated enemy leaves behind a green healing orb for you to collect. The little white balls even create a chi. They can be created when you defeat an opponent with Blackout Kick.
In the first section, you progress through Ascendancy and Powerful Strikes to the talents that enhance Fists of Fury before unlocking the rest. In the second section you first take the talents on the right up to and including Thunderfist. Then go left via Mark of the Crane and Inner Peace to Chi-Ji’s Dance. Then you unlock the rest of the talents in any order.
In the last section you are on the home straight when leveling. Try different talents here. We recommend Fatal Flying Guillotine first for a boosted Touch of Death. With Whirling Dragon Strike, the rotation feels a little smoother.

Windwalker monks harness energy and chi. You can see your energy in the yellow bar under your health bar. This resource regenerates automatically and you mainly use it to use Tiger Claw. Each tiger claw produces at least two chi. The orbs under your energy bar show you how much chi you have just collected. Your powerful skills cost Chi. Your mastery increases your damage unless you cast the same ability twice in a row. Basically, you’re always alternating between casting Tiger Claw and a Chi-costing ability. You note the following priority list:

1. Whirling Dragon Strike (high damage against single targets and groups)
2. Whirling Crane Kick (only with Proc Chi-Ji’s dance)
3. fists of fury (three chi; will be channeled)
4. Strike of the Windlord (two Chi; Thunderfist per target hit)
5. Occurs the rising sun (two Chi; high single damage)
6. damage diversion (generates a chi and healing)
7. tiger claw (50 Energy; generates Chi)
8th. Blackout Kick (a chi; fill spell)
9. chi kick (deals damage and healing)

The Whirling Dragon Strike ability can be unlocked at level 53 at the earliest. However, you can only use this ability when Fists of Fury and Rising Sun Kick are on cooldown.

The way of playing for groups of opponents

Many of your spells deal damage to multiple enemies at once. With a little practice, you can always attack several enemies at the same time. In principle, you use the same skills as against individual opponents. However, you only cast magic if you can use Whirling Dragonstrike shortly afterwards. Instead of Blackout Kick, you now cast Whirling Crane Kick as a fill spell.

The new White Tiger Statue deals high damage to nearby enemies. However, it has a cooldown of two minutes. So you have to think about where you want to place them beforehand.

This ability deals immense damage for three or more targets. Once you have the Mark of the Crane talent, the damage increases even further if you first attack different enemies and apply the mark. Simply press Tab after each use of Tiger Claw to target the closest enemy in range. In this way, you automatically mark each opponent and increase your damage enormously!

When the next enemy is in sight, leave your mount in your pocket and run. You are significantly faster with Flying Serpent Kick, Tiger Rush, Chitorpedo or Roll than when you have to summon your mount. Also casts damage redirection on cooldown while running. This is how you treat small wounds and immediately generate valuable Chi for the next fight.

If you’re still lacking health, cast revive. Thanks to the Vivid Revive talent, you can spontaneously cast Revive every 10 seconds while moving. You can also attack individual enemies from afar with Crackling Jade Lightning. This is particularly useful for coveted (quest) opponents. Namely, if too many other players attack this target in front of you, its health will be displayed in gray and you will then not be able to loot quest items from the enemy.

Your cooldowns as a Windwalker Monk

touch of death instantly defeats an opponent with less health than you. You can use the spell on bosses from 15 percent health. But then the ability does less damage. Thanks to the new talents, Death’s Touch now has a 90 second cooldown and hits up to four additional nearby enemies. Additionally, after using Death’s Touch, you can use the ability a second time within five seconds. So with big pulls, you weaken a target until you can send them across the Jordan with Touch of Death. This sets off a chain reaction and four more enemies take high damage. If an opponent dares not to bite the dust, take them out with the second touch of death.

Storm, Earth and Fire increases your damage by 35 percent for 15 seconds. You split up into three elemental spirits. The spirits prefer to attack other targets. In this way, you quickly generate additional Whirling Crane Kicks. You can collect two charges of Storm, Earth and Fire.

Summon Xuen, the white tiger increases your damage dealt. You can control the tiger like a hunter pet for 24 seconds. He deals a lot of damage to up to three enemies.

White Tiger Statue place it in the middle of the enemies for big pulls. Make sure you stay close to the statue as it only deals damage to nearby enemies.

touch of karma transfers a portion of your damage taken to the target. Use the ability as often as possible, as it gives you a decent amount of defense while also increasing your damage done.

magic diffusion reduces magic damage taken by a whopping 60 percent for 6 seconds. You cleanse yourself of all magic debuffs and reflect them back on the enemy!
