Game of the Year: No chance for Elden Ring – Sonic and Genshin Impact are ahead

On Friday the December 9th it is from 1:30 am time again. Geoff Keighley presents the Game Awards once again. At the Oscars of the games industry, there will be numerous again “World Premiers” see the light of day. In addition to content such as DLCs for Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring, fans can look forward to new information about Diablo IV and Starfield. The actual awards almost take a back seat. In numerous categories, such as Best Art Direction, Best Narrative or Best Score and Music the game hits 2022 honored. One category in particular catches the eye and ensures in the run-up to the prestigious award ceremony for amazement and shaking of heads.

Game of the Year 2022? Critics and fans disagree

The Game Awards 2022 will be in over 30 categories awarded. Top nominees include God of War: Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West, and Elden Ring (buy now €59.99 / €53.99 ). The latter title applies in particular to critics as well as fans darker RPGs as a secret favorite. From Software’s hugely successful action role-playing game is the spiritual successor to the legendary Dark Souls games.

Elden Ring is equally considered commercially successful and yet not adapted to the mainstream. An ideal candidate for the category “Game of the Year”, the most important title of a branch that is still fighting for recognition in mainstream society in 2022. But fans obviously see things differently.

Game of the Year 2022? Game Awards viewers vote against Elden Ring

At the Game Awards, it’s in the category “Player’s Voice” reserved for the viewers, above her game of the year vote. In the third and final round are five finalists left free. These are Elden Ring, the cat action-adventure Stray, God of War Ragnarök, Sonic Frontiers and Genshin Impact.

To the surprise of many gamers, the free-2-play JRPG Genshin Impact is apparently unassailable in this vote for Game of the Year. So far, more than 50 percent have voted for the game, which is more than two years old. The blue SEGA hedgehog Sonic raced into second place with over 30 percent. Only in third place is Elden Ring with a meager 8 percent. It’s even worse for God of War Ragnarok. Just 5 percent of fans have so far opted for the Playstation title. A tiny percent goes to the last-placed Stray.
