Nvidia is reacting to current exchange rate developments and is reducing the price of its latest Geforce RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 models.
News
With the release of the Geforce RTX 4090, Nvidia had only turned the price screw up: the flagship GPU was originally supposed to be sold for an RRP of 1,949 euros, while the sister model of the RTX 4080 has a price of 1,469 euros. The high prices were justified by increased production costs, persistent inflation and other factors such as the weak euro/dollar exchange rate.
However, the last-mentioned circumstance has changed since the graphics cards were released, so that the euro exchange rate has increased significantly since September – and Nvidia has now in turn caused a price change: The official website has them RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 with a five percent lower RRP. The top model now costs 1,859 euros, while the 4080 version ends up at 1,399 euros.
The stronger euro exchange rate is therefore passed on directly to the end customer. It remains to be seen whether this marginal price reduction will change anything about the weak sales of the new RTX 4000 graphics cards – after all, even scalpers are faced with unsold graphics cards of the RTX 4080 models, which nobody wants to buy due to their overpriced retail price.
AMD’s upcoming sales start on December 13th is also eagerly awaited, in which, among other things, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX should be shown as direct competition – and should “only” cost 999 US dollars (MSRP). rumors on twitter according to Nvidia, the price of the RTX 4080 could be screwed up again if the AMD GPU turns out to be a real threat.
