Meta: Oculus Quest 2 and Co. available again in Germany

from Rhonda Bachman
After the Facebook group Meta withdrew its VR glasses from the German market in 2020, the devices are now returning. Both the Meta Quest 2 and the new Meta Quest Pro can now be purchased in Germany in the Meta Shop.

In line with the festival, the Facebook group is again offering its VR glasses in Germany. In 2020, after the Federal Cartel Office intervened, the company withdrew its devices from the German market. Last October it was said that the new Meta Quest Pro headset would not come to Germany. As of today, both the Meta Quest 2 headset and the new Meta Quest Pro are also available in Germany.

VR headsets from Meta are now back in Germany

Meta stopped its VR glasses business in Germany in 2020. At that time, the Federal Cartel Office got involved because a Facebook account was required to operate the company’s headsets. After abuse proceedings were initiated against the group, Facebook, today’s Meta, withdrew its glasses from the German market.

Meta has now moved away from the obligation to have a Facebook account. Now only a so-called meta-horizon profile is required for the headsets, but this no longer needs to be linked to the social network. Consequently, the VR devices can also be sold in this country again. Just in time for the holidays, Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro can be ordered through the Meta Shop.

The cheaper model Meta Quest 2 is available from 449 euros. The headset has either 128 or 256 gigabytes of memory and can also be operated independently of the PC – there are some bundles at Amazon, among others. The Meta Quest Pro, presented in October, is also coming to Germany. This will cost 1,799.99 euros and will come with a Touch Pro controller, stylus attachments, partial light blockers and a charging station. The Meta Quest Pro also has 12 gigabytes of RAM, 256 gigabytes of storage space and 10 high-resolution sensors.
