The apps for Android and iOS have been available in the app stores for a few days. For smart TVs and streaming sticks, it is important to consult the platform provider. That costs Paramount Plus in the subscription

Let’s start with the costs for Paramount Plus: Interested parties can currently get a taste of it for 7 days free of charge. Those who test the streaming service for seven days have no restrictions whatsoever compared to the paid subscription. After the seven days, the fees are due: Monthly subscriptions cost 7.99 euros; Annual subscriptions are sold for EUR 79.90. With an annual subscription you save 16.5 percent (6.66 euros per month).

Sky customers get Paramount Plus for the first year at no additional cost to their existing Sky Cinema subscription. It is unclear whether the deal will be extended beyond that. Disney Plus did that. Meanwhile, Wow ticket subscriptions do not include Paramount Plus.

The big topic is of course the program of series and films at Paramount Plus: As expected, this primarily contains productions to which Paramount owns the rights. Similar to Disney, you also buy content. But one has also licensed one’s own productions to third parties, which are therefore currently not expected to be found at Paramount Plus.

In addition, of course, you will generally find Star Trek content in the program offering; even the Original, Next Generation, Deep Space 9 and Voyager series, which are also signed to Netflix. Unusual, because Disney Plus once fell into the trap when it launched in Germany, for example with Lost and American Horror Story, which were licensed exclusively to third parties. Over time, however, the offers were brought into their own system.

Some people will ask how the delivered quality of the program is. Then there is also the first disappointment for all those who care about it. Depending on availability, the content is all in SD or HD. Meanwhile, UHD is not an issue, which clearly distinguishes it from Disney. Even current productions such as Star Trek Strange News Worlds are only delivered in HD. This is also the case internationally and one can only speculate about the reasons. A mixture of costs and securing sales of the 4K UHD Blu-rays (Event Horizon is tried for sale for 50 euros) seems conclusive, but is certainly a minus point in view of the competition.

Anyone looking for 4K UHD content from the Paramount program must hope for licenses from Amazon and Netflix or, as a last resort, can rent the content from Apple. Apple always offers 4K UHD when available – sometimes for the same price as the HD version elsewhere.
