Uncharted is reportedly getting a reboot, but not from Naughty Dog

Uncharted has already had a spinoff with Lost Legacy, and a reboot may be coming soon.

Play it again, Nathan: Uncharted may get a reboot. This could start the blockbuster series from Sony and Naughty Dog all over again or from scratch. What awaits us is not certain – if the restart comes at all. But if so, then another developer studio should work on it. At least that’s what the current leak says.

Uncharted reboot reportedly not coming from Naughty Dog

Uncharted is one of the biggest, best known and most successful franchises that Sony has to offer. Over time, four main games, various collections and prettier versions and also a spinoff appeared. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, however.

Is an Uncharted reboot coming? According to a leak, yes. Like the side the leak reported, a reboot of the game series is pending. Unfortunately, there is hardly any new information about what could be in store for us. After all, the source seems to be a relatively reliable one.

Not from Naughty Dog? Perhaps the most exciting detail about the whole thing is that this reboot of the Uncharted franchise is set to be developed by a very different studio. Unfortunately, it is also not announced which that is. However, Naughty Dog should at least initially be on hand in an advisory capacity.

The question of what direction such a reboot could go in naturally stimulates the imagination. Two possibilities seem the most likely: Either we’ll start from scratch, with a young Nathan Drake, or we’ll be served up completely new characters.

Leak matches the rest: With the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Naughty Dog has indicated several times that the series is over and, above all, that it will not be developed further by this developer studio (via: kotaku).

But there have been indications of a continuation of the brand in whatever form for at least as long. For example, in April we saw some hints that Uncharted’s legacy was being worked on:

Job advertisement also indicates: Then there’s a Sony tender from October stating that a new PlayStation studio will be collaborating with Naughty Dog on a “popular franchise”. So pretty much exactly what the leak now claims about the Uncharted reboot. But it could also be a The Last of Us Part 2 remaster.
