Avatar: The Way of Water is much more beautiful than Marvel – says James Cameron
Well-known directors such as Martin Scorsese and James Cameron have often spoken in the past about their aversion to superhero films and, of course, Marvel in particular. However, Cameron admitted in recent interviews that the sheer number of films being produced by Marvel and other companies come with some useful side effects. Most importantly, according to Cameron, be like him towards ComicBook.com explainedthe standard at VFX has risen quite a bit in the years since the release of the first Avatar film in 2009, fueling the entire industry.
According to James Cameron, Marvel movies have done at least one good thing
“Obviously the big comic book movies have driven the sheer volume of the industry… the ever-improving technology is bringing everyone together. It’s making for better quality artists, more tools, plugins, and code. There are more talented people out there who write code.”
Marvel movies might not be real cinema, but at least not everything is bad about the numerous superhero films. Above all, Thanos, played by Josh Brolin, is highly praised by many fans. The character was brought to life through motion capture, just like the Na’vi from Avatar. However, according to Cameron, his creation is absolutely superior to Thanos.
“Our team at WETA Digital is constantly hiring new people who come from just that pool of talented people. So it improves everything. That means WETA Effects, as it’s now called, is the best. Right? Industrial Light & Magic is doing a great job , but when it comes to the emotional facial expressions we do… Thanos, come on, spare me.“
Avatar: The Way of Water, the long-awaited sequel to the first Avatar film, is scheduled for release on December 16th this year. So by that date, all moviegoers can decide for themselves if the Na’vi really do look as awesome as Cameron claims.
