There is some confusion about the Diablo IV Collector’s Box. What is it and why isn’t there a game in it?
A few days ago, the release date of Diablo IV was announced at The Game Awards. This is accompanied by the advance sale of various versions of the game. But a “game version” causes confusion. Because if you think that the “Collector’s Box” is a collector’s edition of the game, you’re wrong.
What kind of “Collector’s Box” is that? The Collector’s Box is specifically not a “Collector’s Edition” of Diablo IV. It is an add-on package of which only “a limited quantity” will be made and contains some Diablo-themed goodies. This includes:
- Candle of Creation
- Cloth Map of Sanctuary
- Art Book: Diablo IV – Collector’s Edition
- Occult Mouse Pad
- Horadrim collectible pin
- 2 matt art prints (47 cm x 27 cm)
The box will be revealed in more detail on December 15th and will only be available for pre-order in the Blizzard Gear Store after that.
Isn’t that misleading? no In the announcement, Blizzard clearly states that the “Collector’s Box” is not a game – that’s a big hint in the introduction.
Even if you overlooked this note, you could probably have been skeptical about the price. Because the “Collector’s Box” costs $97 (Euro price is still pending), while the most expensive digital variant, the “Ultimate Edition” costs a whopping $100.
However, some fans seem to have missed both clues and are now complaining about it on official forums.
What do you have to buy then? Anyone who owns Diablo IV and wants to play at the release must buy one of the three versions that are available. The digital versions are available in the following versions:
- Standard Edition – €69.99
- Digital Deluxe Edition – €89.99
- Ultimate Edition – €99.99
Whether there is a classic “Collector’s Edition” of Diablo IV is not yet clear. But don’t confuse this with the Collector’s Box – be careful when you buy it!
What do you think of such a “Collector’s Box”? A nice thing for real fans? Or rather nasty rip-off, because then you have to buy 2 things?
