DJI Mini 3 presented: What is the portrait drone good for?

from Julius Bald
With the DJI Mini 3, drone manufacturer DJI has presented a new entry-level drone that is said to weigh less than 249 grams and should therefore be of particular interest to hobby and travel pilots. We present the most important specifications of the small drone.

The DJI Mini 3 comes with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, which has a total resolution of 12 megapixels. The camera allows recording of HDR videos and photos as well as 4K video clips. The unique selling point of the DJI Mini 3 lies in the extraordinary camera system: the lens can be converted to portrait format at the push of a button. The videos and photos taken in this way are said to be perfect for social media applications for Instagram or TikTok.

DJI Mini 3: These are the specifications compared to the Mini 3 Pro

The entry-level drone weighs less than 249 grams and should fold in such a way that it hardly takes up any space. In terms of battery life, the manufacturer states a flight time of 38 minutes. The DJI Mini 3 is stable up to wind speeds of 10.7 meters per second. Of course, there are also numerous mini features that are already known from other DJI drones. There are already pre-programmed movements such as the Helix maneuver or the Rocket function, in which the drone is launched vertically with the camera tilted downwards.

For potential buyers, the question naturally arises as to whether the DJI Mini 3 is sufficient or whether it should be the bigger brother in the form of the DJI Mini 3 Pro. As always, it depends entirely on your personal area of application. The DJI Mini 3 Pro has interesting tracking functions and obstacle detection. There are also different color profiles and higher frame rates when filming. The Pro version also has internal storage. The DJI Mini 3 will be released in early 2023 and will cost 489 euros without a remote control and charger.
