Game Awards 2022: deserved winners, great announcements – but where is Xbox?

The Game Awards 2022 on December 8th - what to expect! (1)

As you know, I really like them, the big games showcases, in which one trailer after the other and one announcement after the other blows up in our faces. To a certain extent I can live with embarrassing moderators, the smooth-ironed PR blubber of some developers or publishers, the paid cheering in the audience and meaningless CGI scenes. The Game Awards at the end of the year are always a mix of all of these things.

When Geoff Keighley invites you to a round of announcements, you now know quite well what you’re getting: A constantly grinning moderator who finds everything at least “awesome”, some even more than great (e.g. everything that Hideo Kojima does, or the umpteenth commercial block for Genshim Impact). But also many interesting announcements and trailers, most of which have not yet been leaked in advance. And unfortunately more and more commercial blocks that scratch the patience of every viewer.

The Game Awards 2022 – exciting announcements

In fact, a number of games were announced at this year’s event that I find extremely exciting. There are also release dates and new trailers for various projects that I really want to play:

  • hades 2: It certainly came as a surprise to most fans: the developers of Supergiant Games are making a sequel to one of their games for the first time. On the other hand Hades was so popular with many players, so successful on all platforms – a part 2 is only logical. The early access phase on the PC is scheduled to start next year.

  • The new project by Bioshock inventor Ken Levine answers to the name Judas, but exuded so many Bioshock vibes in the trailer that I’m really keen on the thing. The first-person shooter is expected to come to PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series in 2023.

  • While the announcement of Armored Core 6 left me quite cold, I am pleased with the statements from Hidetaka Miyazaki: We can expect more projects from the developer legend in the future, including new ones for the Elden Ring universe (although the Coliseum PvP DLC leaves me cold).
  • Remnant: From the Ashes passed me by at the time, but the trailer too Remnant 2 I thought it was great.
  • Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be released on March 17, 2023. I already thought the first part was great.
  • Final Fantasy 16 looks better with every trailer and is coming on June 22, 2023!

  • A hot summer awaits us: too diablo 4 will be released in June, more precisely: on June 06, 2023.
  • The great Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a story DLC with Phantom Liberty next year.
  • There were first gameplay scenes for Dune Awakening. Having had a lot of fun with Conan Exiles, I’m really looking forward to Funcom’s Suvival MMO.
  • There was a sign of life from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League: with Batman and the confirmation that the game will be released in the coming year.
  • The survival open world game Nightingale (by ex-Bioware developers) will be released in the first half of 2023.
  • Baldur’s Gate 3 will leave Early Access in August 2023!
  • The first gameplay scenes of Space Marine 2 make you want more!
  • Also for The Lords of the Fallen there was a new trailer with ingame scenes. In terms of design, the game doesn’t have to hide behind the Souls games.

Even before the Game Awards, there was also a vote for the various categories within our publishing house, and in the end my favorites were chosen almost everywhere.
