Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon: No open world and no connection to the predecessors

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Rumor: Customizable Kill Cams Coming Soon

The mech title Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon developed by From Software will not be based on an open world and will not contain any connections to the previous games.

During this year’s Game Awards, developer From Software’s next project, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, was unveiled in an impressive trailer.

In a new interview with IGN From Software President Hidetaka Miyazaki, together with Director Masaru Yamamura, has now revealed that the mech title will neither be based on an open world nor on direct connections to the previous games:

“To be clear, Armored Core VI will have a mission-based structure for single player. It’s not completely open – it will stay with this mission-based structure. Regarding the inclusion in the trailer. A major cataclysm was shown in the trailer, which brought about enormous changes in the environment – similar to an ice age. This shot is simply a direct representation of the Armored Core VI world and the mech pilots who must survive such dramatic changes. So that’s what we’re trying to show with this recording.”

“We would like to see this as a whole new story. There are no direct ties to the previous games in terms of story continuation. It’s a brand new setting and story for players to enjoy.”

While Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon shifts the focus to the single player experience, unlike previous titles, there will also be a versus mode in the vein of the older installments of the series:

“Yes, we are planning a versus mode, similar to previous Armored Core titles, where you can customize your mech and go into battle against others with this fully customized mech. But we will announce more details on that at a later date. The main focus in AC6 – at least as far as the story mode is concerned – is on the development and progression of the story. For the story mode, we focused on the single player mode. We will announce more details about the multiplayer mode at a later date.”

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon will be released in 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
