God of War: Amazon officially confirms its own TV series

God of War is getting its own series on Amazon Prime. The company has now officially confirmed this. The first details about the plot and the responsible parties are already known.

What was already rumored a few months ago is now officially confirmed: Amazon is working on its own series for the Playstation hit God of War. The series is to be released exclusively for Prime Video and has been in development since March 2022. Some real Amazon top-class artists are involved in the adaptation.

Story starts with God of War (2018).

To make the God of War series a hit for Amazon, the company, in partnership with Sony Pictures Television and Playstation Productions, hired Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins and Oscar-nominated writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby ( The Expanse, Iron Man, Children of Men) brought on board. The series tells the story of Kratos and his son and starts directly with the reboot of the game series from 2018. Accordingly, the series takes place in Midgard. Specifically, the official description of God of War on Amazon Prime says:

“When his beloved wife dies, Kratos embarks with his estranged son on a perilous journey to scatter her ashes from the highest peak – his wife’s dying wish. Kratos quickly realizes that the journey is in fact an epic quest, a quest that will test the bond between father and son and force Kratos to fight new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.”

God of War joins Fallout and Mass Effect in the series of video game adaptations on Amazon Prime Video that will compete with Netflix Horizon Zero Dawn, Devil May Cry, Splinter Cell, Tomb Raider and Assassin’s Creed. However, there is no specific release date for the series yet.
