PlayStation 5: Slim model possible with optional 2023 drive

Activision Blizzard: Phil Spencer pleased with acquisition progress

A new slim model of the PlayStation 5 with an optional disc drive could be released next year.

Next year, Sony could launch a new version of its PlayStation 5. As early as November, we heard about a possible slim version with a smaller case or a version with an optional removable drive.

Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform experience at Sony, now gave a possible indication of such a plan. Because Nishino told Famitsu that 2023 will be a very important year for the platform. He didn’t give any further details, but he hopes that everyone is looking forward to next year.

The new PlayStation 5 model is rumored to be launched in September 2023. The new console is to replace all previous models for Christmas sales in the same year in order to save production costs.
