Steam Controller: Valve wants to make a second attempt with a new model

In 2015, Valve released its first Steam Controller. Sales have stopped after four mixed years, but with the success of the Steam deck, a new model may follow.

One of the two designers of the Steam Deck recently revealed that this should only be a matter of time. According to him, there will definitely be a second version of the Steam Controller in the future.

Steam Controller: Second Edition “just a matter of how and when”

During an interview with The Verge languages Steam Deck designers Lawrence Yang and Pierre-Loup Griffais on the future of Valve’s in-house hardware. On the occasion, a potential second Steam Controller was also inquired about. Yang explained that the Valve team was positive about such a thing.

It even says specifically: “Yes, we want to realize it”. In addition, the designer explains that the Steam Controller would come, but it is not yet known in what form. “It’s just a matter of how and when,” Yang clarifies.

The focus remains on the Steam Deck

In the future, however, Valve’s designers will continue to focus on the Steam Deck, as Yang clarifies. Speaking of the Steam Controller, he says it’s likely that the designers will embrace it because they want it too. “Right now we’re concentrating on the deck, so it’s a bit the same as asking about the mic: it’s definitely something we’d like to work with a third party or look at ourselves.”
