Twitch streamer bets $500,000 on World Cup final: “The easiest win of my life”

Twitch streamer bets $500,000 on World Cup final: "The easiest win of my life"

Twitch streamer Félix “xQc” Lengyel (27) had long been addicted to gambling in online casinos. After Twitch banned the “Stake” platform, he has now bet half a million US dollars on the final of the World Cup. He was totally sure that the cool French would win. Argentina are noobs, Lionel Messi just an “old boomer”.

What’s going on on Twitch when it comes to gambling?

  • For about a year and a half, popular streamers made insane amounts of money promoting the casino platform Stake. Streamers have gambled online for large sums in front of tens of thousands of viewers, often losing, but at the same time apparently getting a lot of money from the casino – in one case we are talking about $360 million over 16 months.
  • After protests from uninvolved Twitch streamers that the streamers were driving their viewers into addiction and bankruptcy, Twitch explicitly banned the casino stake.
  • Now, however, streamers are turning to “sports betting,” although shockingly ignorant, streamers are gambling for huge sums of money. Once again, they place bets on their favorite platform: Stake.

“M’Paypal” vs. “old Boomer Messi”

This was xQc’s bet: The biggest streamer on Twitch, xQc, bet $500,000 on France winning the World Cup Finals on 12/18/2022. He said it was the “EASIEST VICTORY OF MY LIFE” – xQc basically writes everything in all-caps because everything he says is factual and meaningful.

He wrote: His “man”, MPaypal, apparently he means Kylian Mbappé, will break the “noobs”‘ necks.

The prize was US$ 1.425 million.

xQc said he had an “internal main character crystal ball” that he rubbed and was confident in his victory.

At 0-2, xQc panicked and ejected

How did it go then? Not so good for xQc. When Messi scored to make it 1-0 for Argentina, xQc had a little fit and got upset about the “old boomer” Messi. He could only hit if the whole game was frozen.

How did that turn out? With France trailing 2-0, xQc apparently panicked and ended his bet early, cashing out. Of the $500,000 staked, $495,000 was gone, he walked away with $5,000.

Little was left of the cocky appearance, xQc whimpered a bit and mumbled: He doesn’t know now either, he’ll take the 5k. The 27-year-old grabbed his hair several times and apparently suffered.

Presumably xQc suffered in agony following his decision as France came back up to 2-2 and for a while it looked like France could win the thing. The regular time ended in a draw, so the bet would have been lost even then, but after the 2:2 the cashout could have been more lucrative.

How is this discussed? The decision to “fold” at 0-2 is widely viewed critically because the consolation prize was so small:

  • A user on Twitter says this has to be the “worst cash out” ever.
  • Another user says: “This is why Americans shouldn’t watch football.”

But in the end, the $500,000 that xQc lost here will probably be absorbed by some dubious deal. Because xQc also concluded the new sports bet through its partner: the casino “Stake”.

Looking at it from the outside, one can only conclude that Twitch’s “acclaimed” gambling ban has only caused betting to shift.
