W40k instead of Witcher and Superman: Henry Cavill fulfills the next nerd dream
Henry Cavill (Witcher, Superman) is known to be a big fan of the Warhammer 40k universe. Games Workshop executives recently announced that the actor will executive produce Warhammer 40,000 “on the small and big screens” for Amazon.
You have certainly noticed: The Netflix’s The Witcher series will be without Henry Cavill for season 4. The actor played Geralt of Rivia with an impressive physique. The same could be said of his appearances as Superman in the DC films Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, and here too it was only recently reported that that the next Superman movie will be shot without Henry Cavill.
Next hit on the bucket list: Warhammer 40k
Of course, canceled projects mean that you have time for other things. And what does Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill do? Well, the Brit quickly fulfills the next point on his nerdy “bucket list”. When big fan of Warhammer 40,000 Cavill apparently approached Games Workshop to secure the movie rights to the dystopian sci-fi franchise, only to take the rights to Amazon to negotiate a deal.
The result: A few days earlier announced those responsible at Games Workshop proudlythat Henry Cavill is set to bring the W40k franchise to small and big screens for Amazon. As executive producer, Cavill will use his lore expertise to steer new productions while honing his sword arm for the lead role. The actor is supported, among others, by Andy Smillie from Games Workshop, who has written numerous books for the W40k universe.
in one Post on Instagram explains Cavill: “Seeing a Warhammer universe in live action has been my dream for 30 years. Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel I have the skills and experience to bring a Warhammer Cinematic Universe to life. Working with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been an indescribable blessing, without her we might not have found the perfect home on Amazon. And having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to stay true to the massive scope of Warhammer. To all the Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP we love. I promise to offer you something familiar. And I strive to bring you something amazing that hasn’t been seen before.“
