Geforce RTX 4080: Galax/KFA2 announces 3,615 MHz clock as “world record”

Geforce RTX 4080: Galax/KFA2 announces 3,615 MHz clock as 'world record' (2)

from Norman Wittkopf
Graphics card manufacturer Galax or KFA2 reports an OC world record for its custom model of Nvidia’s Geforce RTX 4080, but does not provide any details.

KFA2 is known to be the European brand of the Hong Kong-based graphics card manufacturer Galax and while the latter name is best known for the record-breaking HOF model series, the Geforce RTX 4080 16GB SG (Serious Gaming) 1-Click OC should now be a comparatively simple custom model set a new overclocking record.

This is by no means a souped-up flagship design in the style of the Hall of Fame series, but rather a standard model in comparison. But as KFA2 announced in a press release on December 20th, the in-house OC team is said to have set a clock rate of 3,615 MHz and thus a new world record for the RTX 4080 under unspecified circumstances.

Based on the standard factory clock, which is 2,565 MHz in the model here, or the 2,580 MHz that can be activated with a 1-click OC feature, a clock increase of “a whopping 40 percent” is said to have been achieved. However, how the result came about in terms of cooling, setup, stability and Co. is not mentioned. Galax or KFA2 had already announced the success on Twitter apart from the current press release at the end of November.

Different results in HWBOT and 3DMark

In addition, the information from Galax/KFA2 cannot be checked either, since no further sources are given for the designated record result. Merely in a chart the official website, where a performance boost of up to 30 percent is mentioned as part of the up to 40 percent overclocking, reference is made to a demonstration by a “well-known JP overclocker”. According to the wording, the manufacturer’s freely available Xtreme Tuner Plus software is said to have been used. There are also a few 3DMark results.

On the well-known and popular with overclockers verification platform Hwbot.org can be found in the comparatively few registered benchmark records for the RTX 4080 meanwhile currently a maximum clock of 3,030 MHz, mind you with air cooling. For example, 19,073 points were recorded in 3DMark Port Royale, while Galax claims to have reached 19,084 points with a significantly higher clock.

The official 3DMark ranking list for the Geforce RTX 4080 meanwhile shows significantly higher benchmark results than Galax (e.g. 21,480 points in the Firestrike Ultra versus 19,237 for Galax) with a lower clock rate (3,390 MHz). The highest clock measured here in the ranking is 3,405 MHz. Accordingly, the information from Galax/KFA2 should be treated with caution. The manufacturer indicates his press release meanwhile pointed out that the RRP of the card has fallen to 1,379 euros. At this price you can also find it at the moment in the PCGH price comparison for currently cheapest offer at Saturn.de.
