The Last of Us is “the best story in video games” according to showrunner of the HBO series
The Last of Us has been one of the most widely praised games and considered one of the best examples of video game storytelling of all time. So when I make the leap to television with the next HBO series, that story will be told to an even wider audience. And according to series showrunner Craig Mazin, it’s a story that ranks as the best ever told in a video game, bar none.
Mazin stated the same in a recent interview with the media Empiresaying:
“It’s an open and shut case: this is the best story ever told in video games.”
He went on to talk about the game’s biggest strength on that front, which he feels is how grounded the story is and how grounded Joel and Ellie are as the leads.
“They didn’t shoot anything out of their eyeballs. They were just people. “And that, in and of itself, is remarkably rare in gaming. The fact that they kept it so ingrained, and it really made you feel like I’ve never experienced anything like it, and I’ve been playing video games since 1977.”
The Last of Us premieres on HBO on January 15. In the meantime, The Last of Us Part 1, currently available on PS5, is also coming to PC on March 3. On top of that, recent reports have claimed that Naughty Dog is also working on The Last of Us Part 3.
