The Witcher 3: PC hotfix against performance issues does not help everyone
The developers at CD Projekt have released a hotfix update for the PC version of The Witcher 3 after receiving a large amount of criticism about the performance of the next-gen update: Even on powerful computers, there were severe performance drops .
The celebrated fantasy role-playing game The Witcher 3 has been shining in new splendor since December 14, 2022: the next-gen update has been released and relies on modern graphic splendor. The fact that this also requires more powerful hardware than was required when the game originally came out in 2015 comes as no surprise to anyone. But what came as a shock to many was the performance of the next-gen update on PC. However, these problems should be eliminated thanks to the hotfix patch.
Hotfix for Witcher 3: Next-gen version issues on PC in focus
On the game’s official Steam page, the developers only briefly emphasized that there is a hotfix: “We just got a hotfix for The Witcher 3 (buy now €27.10 ): Wild Hunt released on PC which should improve the overall stability and performance of the game and fix issues with the GOG and Steam overlays. This will not change the game version.”
But the 3GB update doesn’t seem to have helped all Witcher fans. in the The Witcher 3 subreddit exchange players whose gaming experience is anything but rosy:
- “I think I got a few FPS more but there are still big drops like I can go from 53 FPS to 36 in a second. There were FPS drops before the nextgen update but it was like 5 FPS, not 15 or 20. By and large it seems like it’s not using all cores/threads.”
- “Yes, I still get bad FPS and quality when using DX12.”
- “Now plays with DX11, much more stable frame rates and still looks great.”
However, there are also players who have had positive experiences with the hotfix: “My GPU usage issues were completely resolved after the hotfix…the hotfix increased my FPS from 30fps to 45 with RT.” or “Yesterday’s patch fixed a lot of my problems though.” What about with you? Did the hotfix patch help you? Or is your PC version still in need of improvement?
