Microsoft Financial Report: Game Pass shines, otherwise weak quarter
Those responsible for Microsoft have published the financial report for the past quarter. The games division caused a drop in sales in the three months, even though Game Pass continued to develop positively and Team Xbox was able to set a record.
After CEO Satya Nadella announced plans to lay off 10,000 employeesmany people interested in the industry were eagerly awaiting the new financial report from Microsoft. It went online yesterday, January 24, 2023and is centered around the second quarter (October through December 2022) of Microsoft’s current fiscal year.
Sales minus versus strong Game Pass
In the following we have summarized the most important findings from the financial report:
- Microsoft generated $52.7 billion in revenue last quarter, up 2 percent from the same quarter last year.
- The cloud business has developed particularly positively. Intelligent Cloud revenue was $21.5 billion (up 18 percent).
- However, the Windows OEM divisions (39 percent less) and the games division (12 percent less) caused a drop in sales.
- There was a drop in sales in the games division, although according to Nadella the Xbox Game Pass continues to develop positively (unfortunately there are no concrete figures) and a quarterly record was set for the number of monthly active users (120 million).
If you could still count on Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 for Christmas 2021, it was the last year for Microsoft similar to… shall we say… remarkable in terms of new releases, like Ubisoft. It should be much better this year. After all, with Starfield, Redfall and Forza Motorsport 7 there are already some exciting titles in the starting blocks.
Don’t forget: Tonight, January 25, 2023, Microsoft and Bethesda are hosting a showcaseto reveal new details about upcoming releases. It starts at 21:00. You can follow the stream on the official Xbox channels ( Twitter , YouTube ) or Bethesda Channels ( Twitter , YouTube ).
