Warhammer 40K Darktide: That’s why developers are stopping further content updates for the time being

Steam heavyweights among themselves: Darktide beats Callisto Protocol, NfS Unbound and Midnight Suns

In an open letter to the players, the Fatshark developers have stated that they will temporarily suspend further seasonal content for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, which was released in November. Instead, they want to focus exclusively on player feedback over the next few months.

Further content for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has been postponed indefinitely by the developers. The newest part of the Tide series started on November 30th and initially enjoyed a real rush of players. However, approval gradually declined. The game is currently rated “Mostly Negative” on Steam. Only 33 percent of the reviews given recently were positive (as of January 25, 2023, 1 p.m.). Now the developers want to focus on player feedback.

More content and Xbox release postponed

Now the developers have sent an open letter to the players of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. It was said that the players’ expectations could not be met. “Over the next few months we will be solely focusing on the feedback that many of you have given us,” Fatshark continued. “Specifically, we will focus on delivering a complete crafting system and a more rewarding progression loop, and continue to work on game stability and performance optimization.”

However, this would also mean that the rollout of the seasonal content as well as the launch of the game on the Xbox Series X|S would have to be postponed. Furthermore, the upcoming releases of premium cosmetics would also be suspended. The studio cannot continue down this path, knowing that many areas of feedback for the game have not been addressed to date.

Player reactions have been mixed in the comments below the letter. While some users understand or even welcome the move and wish the team good luck, other players are more negative. According to these voices, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide can hardly be saved. Other users are wondering why the game was even released in this state.
