Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Leak shows photo quality of different modes

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: First copies from dealers have appeared, first pictures and videos

By default, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra takes photos with the 200 megapixel main camera in 12 megapixel mode. However, better results can probably be achieved with the 50-megapixel mode under acceptable lighting conditions, as a recent leak suggests.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra won’t be long in coming. One thing is clear in advance: the flagship smartphone from the Koranic manufacturer will not be a bargain. Compared to the United States and the prices in US dollars, the euro price is being screwed up a lot, although buyers expect a lavish equipment.

Samsung is also improving the built-in camera sensors in particular. A Chinese leaker, for example, who goes by the name “Ice Universe” on Twitter, recently showed how their quality works in practice.

A 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 200-megapixel wide-angle sensor along with two 10-megapixel telephoto lenses are installed on the back of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Those who take photos with their smartphone by default do so in 12 megapixel mode. The result is an image in which the Isocell HP2 sensor combines 4×4 pixels into one virtual pixel, which is ultimately enlarged 2.4 times. This is particularly advantageous for recordings in poor light conditions. However, if the lighting is better, switching to the optional 200 and 50 megapixel modes can also make sense and deliver better photos.

Leaker Ice Universe shows the differences using corresponding recordings with an 8x crop from the different modes. The 50-megapixel mode particularly stands out and seems to deliver the best optical result when the lighting conditions are sufficient. Compared to the 12 MP mode, the 50 MP image is much more detailed and brighter. Differences from the jump from 50 to 200 megapixels are much less obvious. Instead, the photo is comparatively darker.

How well or badly the different recording modes of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will fare in general should become apparent in the coming days or weeks. The flagship of the S23 line-up starts at 1,399 euros with 8 gigabytes of main memory and 256 gigabytes for data. In the full version, there are 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of data storage for 1,579 euros. Meanwhile, savings can be made in the course of offers for pre-orders, while trade-ins for older Samsung smartphones offer discounts.
