There’s a lot going on in Fortnite right now. Crashing energy beams, roars, and flying interludes are the order of the day since the new update arrived.
A lot has happened in Fortnite over the years. Spectacular events, regular crossovers, concerts, a huge graphic update and ever-changing seasonal themes have transformed the formerly fairly simple build-and-build battle royale into a colorful setting that is constantly changing.
Not even building is now mandatory.
Anyway, a lot of unusual things have happened in the current season in Fortnite. For example, there is a huge energy hammer that you can use to catapult enemies, but also yourself, sky high through the air.
You can use energy shields or a sniper rifle that shoots exploding swords. Alternatively, you can remotely control a Falcon drone that marks enemies in your field of vision or snatches loot from under their noses.
Season 4 brought a variety of crazy weapons:
There are also all sorts of other things that have little to do with traditional shooters – such as the “Deku Smash” that has been feared for weeks. He was deactivated in between, but now he’s back – and how.
The Mythic ability is an attack featured in the anime My Hero Academia that allows players to launch a powerful ball of energy at their enemies from the sky. It flies far, punches through buildings and can easily send you back to the lobby with a single hit.
In the last few weeks there has been a big discussion about the weapon, whether it is too powerful and belongs out, or whether it is just awesome. Because while one side loves to attack, others aren’t fans at all of being blown away from the air after a mighty battle cry.
In any case, the Deku Smash did not fly out in the new Fortnite update. On the contrary: Epic simply followed up and also brought a new Dragon Ball event. With flying clouds and the Kamehameha – a combo that raised the alarm in the summer of 2022.
Energy blasts instead of bullets – Anime attacks reduce battlefields to rubble
This is what Fortnite looks like right now: When the Dragon Ball event was announced for the following day on January 30, some users on the Fortnite subreddit expected that the Deku Smash would have to give way to the Kamehameha. Two such powerful attacks would probably not stay in play at the same time.
But that is exactly the case. And that’s how matches look in the final circles at Fortnite.
You can still hear gunshots, but the cracking of the energy hammer, a battle cry from the devastating Deku Smash or a long drawn-out Ka-me-ha-me-ha mix in between, before a blazing beam of light breaks the terrain around you into its individual parts disassembled.
A user on reddit shows what this can look like in the video:
In addition, people race around in cars and on motorcycles, fly around on the Junduhun cloud, circle their falcon drones or suddenly teleport high into the air when their shields break – because this new ability has also been deployed in the new update .
In short: General chaos has broken out in Fortnite.
This is discussed in various posts on the Fortnite subreddit. Especially the combination “Deku Smash” and “Kamehameha” gets a lot of comments. Some examples:
- “Kamehameha and Deku Smash at the same time? I don’t know, lmao” (via reddit).
- “Oh yeah, that’ll be fine. It’s gonna be a bloodbath. A chaotic, glorious bloodbath” (via reddit).
- “There is so much screaming in the end circles. It’s wild” (via reddit).
- “I played a few games and the finale was literally just everyone deku-en and dragonball-en at each other. Just chill in the bushes and wait for the nonsense to end and then snipe them. I’ve won two games this way so far. I’m not normally a camper, but it sucks to be so open about it when you don’t participate” (via reddit).
All in all, players are apparently split again here, between “terrific” and “annoying”.
Another change in the update, on the other hand, was received very positively by most: The weekly challenges no longer have to be completed within the week in question, but can also be completed later – just like before.
This has given Fortnite players back an important way to earn some XP later in the season. The fact that this was changed at all had received clear criticism.
