Nothing Phone 2: CEO Carl Pei sets approximate release date
In an interview with the website Inverse, Carl Pei, the CEO of the company Nothing, which is responsible for the smartphone of the same name, talks about how the Nothing Phone 2 will continue. The main topic is the release, with special attention to the USA, where the previous model was never fully released.
The Nothing Phone 1 caused a stir last year with its idiosyncratic design, with the glowing glyphs on the back of the device being particularly memorable. The first iteration of the Nothing Phone appeared in Germany in the summer of last year, to the chagrin of the United States, because the market launch of the new smartphone was missed there. But that should change with the sequel, as Carl Pei, the CEO of Nothing and former co-founder of Oneplus, clarified in an interview with the Inverse website.
Nothing Phone 2 is coming this year – this time also in the US
From now on, the USA should become the number 1 priority for Nothing when it comes to opening up new markets. The first Nothing Phone could not go on sale in the USA on the release day, since the majority of smartphones are sold there via network operators. Nothing’s hands were tied in this area due to a lack of resources, as Carl Pei explains. But that’s all history now, because over time the company has worked on building a team (now 400 employees) and establishing the product range, so that Nothing is now on a “more solid basis” and nothing more stands in the way of the USA.
Things get interesting with the Nothing Phone 2, because its existence is certain and the market launch is scheduled for this year, as Carl Pei confirmed in the interview. Model two is said to be significantly more elegant than model one, but the CEO refrains from speaking of a flagship smartphone, as this would mean that the Nothing Phone 1 was not a flagship smartphone. In addition, smartphones are not yet up to the standard set by industry leaders such as Apple and Samsung. That’s why Carl Pei prefers the term “Premium” for the Nothing Phone 2.

To the delight of the CEO, his company generated almost ten times the worldwide sales of 2021 in 2022, which, however, has to be seen in the context that two years ago only earplugs were offered and a year later an entire mobile phone. After all, the Nothing Phone 1 was only available in the USA six months later and only in a beta test state to test the entry of Android 13 on the device. As is well known, this will now change with the next Nothing Phone.
