A current one Bloomberg-Sony adjusts expectations for PS VR2’s success according to report. Insiders close to the source claim that Sony has reduced the forecast for deliveries of the virtual reality glasses and thus production by half. From two million sales planned so far by March 2023, it will go down to just one million.
The reason for this is the low number of pre-orders, about which Sony itself – just like about the quantities produced – does not give any official information. Sony is said to have instructed display manufacturers to reduce production. The source states that the manufacturer even expects to ship just 1.5 million PS VR2 units between April 2023 and March 2024. The predecessor – Playstation VR – has sold just over 5 million copies since it was launched in 2016.
PS VR2 will be released on February 22, 2023 – in just over three weeks. The new VR glasses for the Playstation 5 should build on the success of the predecessor. Buyers receive a high-resolution, state-of-the-art headset with OLED displays, HDR support, 120Hz, motion detection without external sensors and a touch controller for around 600 euros. Even if the price seems cheap in view of the competition from Valve Index, Vive Pro and Co., the RRP could be a deterrent. After all, an obligatory console is between 450 and 550 euros.
In addition, the use of the PS VR2 is limited to the PS5. Excursions on the PC are not provided without further ado. The applications and, above all, games that are available for PS VR2 then become decisive. That’s a few dozen at the moment, including high-profile AAA productions and highly anticipated PS VR2 patches for PS5 games that are already out.
