Sequel to The Batman already has a name and release date in theaters
After months of speculation, DC Studios has finally given fans their first look at their upcoming slate of DC universe movies.
Although Matt Reeves’ BatVerse is not part of the DCU, DC Studios executives James Gunn and Peter Safran are still overseeing production. As such, the duo revealed the new name and release date for the highly anticipated follow-up on Tuesday.
now titled The Batman: Part II, the Matt Reeves film will hit theaters on October 3, 2025. At a press event Monday, Gunn and Safran applauded Reeves’ work on the series, confirming that the world he’s building is part of DC Studios but it is not part of the universe that is currently being built. Not only that, but they apparently suggested that the director might be directing a third film in the franchise to complete a trilogy.
“Matt is working on Batman 2, which he sees as a Batman crime saga, which also includes the Penguin TV series,” Gunn said Monday. “And it’s his own thing, and he’s working hard on it. He came over and introduced us to some really cool, amazing stuff the other day. Our plan is for that to continue.”
Safran later confirmed that the film is still under the DC Studios umbrella, even though it’s not part of the main franchise. “We are fully committed to the success of Batman, just like everything else,” added the executive.
Upon its release last year, The Batman quickly became a fan of many due to its new take on Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson).
