Windows 11: Update installation still affected by bugs
There have been problems with the installation of updates under Windows 11 for several months. These are expressed in complex error messages and can actually hardly be avoided unless the updates are installed manually from the update catalogue. Therefore, read more about the problems and the possible solutions for them below.
Windows 11 still urgently needs updates in some places to improve usability and remove bugs. One of them is the actual installation of updates, which seems to have been causing problems regularly for several months now. Unfortunately, this does not only affect a few users with special application areas, but also numerous users who want to install the current security updates for Microsoft’s latest operating system. Corresponding reports have recently been piling up in the Feedback Hub, but Microsoft has not yet been able to find a clear solution.

The problem arises, for example, when installing important security updates such as KB5022303, the installation of which is aborted with strange error messages. Typical is 0x800f0831, which can also occur when installing the optional update KB5022360. However, users not only complain about the error message, but also that the installation process still does not run properly after repeated attempts, but excludes them from the current updates without a clear reason being known.
This problem has existed since August and many devices have not been optimally updated since then. A few even suffer from boot loops and Microsoft doesn’t seem to be able to solve this in the long term either. It is also important here that Windows 10 was also affected by such problems in the past and Microsoft already had considerable problems turning them off again. Initial measures against the bugs include bundling the Servicing Stack Updates (SSU) with the monthly cumulative updates, but so far that hasn’t worked either.
If you still need or want to carry out updates, you have two options. The updates can either be obtained from Microsoft itself via the update catalog or by installation with the Media Creation Tool. However, the latter is a long and frustrating process, so you should carefully consider whether the updates really need to be installed.
