Alan Wake 2 will be more focused on the survival horror genre than the original

Today, the survival horror genre is having a second wind with so many titles that we have had and will have recently. It looks like 2023 is going to be its strongest year in a long, long time. We have already seen the release of deadspace, while another giant will launch soon in resident evil 4. Another great survival horror game coming out this year, one that, unlike the two aforementioned games, isn’t a remake, it’s alan wake 2.

The fact that alan wake 2 being done to itself is enormously significant, given the length of time Remedy Entertainment has been trying to get the project off the ground, but as the studio’s first entry into a full-blown survival horror game, it becomes even more significant. But what exactly can we expect from a Remedy game that, unlike the Alan Wake original, which was an action-adventure title with some horror elements, is completely steeped in the genre?

While Remedy isn’t ready to talk about it just yet, game director Kyle Rowley says that, true to its track record, the studio will put its own stamp on the genre and make it their own.

Speaking in a recent interview with GamesRadarRowley said:

“I’d love to go into those kinds of details, but we’re not ready to reveal too much about our approach to survival horror yet. What I will say is that we want to put a stake in the ground and say that we are creating Remedy’s version of the survival horror genre. Gameplay, narrative, atmosphere, music, it’s all singing from the same hymn sheet, and that was very important to us from the beginning.”

It remains to be seen how long it will be before we start getting concrete details on alan wake 2 and how it will tackle the survival horror genre, but Remedy Entertainment keeps insisting that the game will be out sometime this year, so hopefully we’ll hear more about it before long.
