EA kills mobile projects for Apex Legends & Battlefield and Apex/Titanfall solo mode
Those responsible at Electronic Arts are apparently mucking out their stable. Several game projects are said to have ended prematurely, namely the mobile versions of Apex Legends and Battlefield. Apparently, a Titanfall single-player mode or a corresponding solo campaign for Apex Legends also had to believe it.
Those responsible at Electronic Arts may not have been in a party mood recently. With Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, one of the most exciting new releases of the current financial year had to be postponed to April 2023 (and thus to the next financial year), which immediately had an impact on EA’s stock value. And then in the last few days there have also been all sorts of reports of developments that ended prematurely.
In addition to mobile games, also Titanfall 3 affected?
First there was the official confirmation from EA itself that they had canceled the current project of Industrial Toys with Battlefield Mobile (via Eurogamer). The responsible studio was closed at the same time. As a second step, the developers at Respawn Entertainment had to announce the early end of Apex Legends Mobile. On the official website says:
“After a strong start, content replenishment for Apex Legends Mobile has fallen short of expectations in terms of quality, quantity, and cadence. That’s why, after months of working with our development partner, we made the joint decision to discontinue our mobile game.“
It was a little later Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who reportedthat, according to several internal sources, EA has also stopped developing a previously unannounced single-player title that is set to play in the Titanfall/Apex Legends universe. Creative Director Mohammad Alavi is said to have been responsible for the “TFL / Titanfall Legends” project until 2021. However, he left the studio to pursue his “next adventure”.
Shortly after the reveal, well-connected industry insider Jeff Grubb explained that this was not a standalone game, but a single-player campaign with Titanfall gaming experience for Apex Legends (via VGC). So explained Grubb in his podcast: “In two weeks time Apex Legends will get Team Deathmatch and that was always part of the plan to turn Apex Legends into a platform where you can have all kinds of shooter experiences in an expanded Apex Legends/Titanfall world.“We wouldn’t mind a real Titanfall 3. How about you guys?
