Gears 6 is reportedly the next game from The Coalition after two other projects were shelved

The Coalition is said to be fully focused on the next installment in the Gears of War series.

Two other games that the developer studio was working on had previously been discontinued.

Affected by layoffs

After Declarations by Giant Bombs Jeff Grubb, Gears 6 is now the studio’s main focus.

The Coalition announced in May 2021 that it would switch to Unreal Engine 5. Shortly thereafter, a level designer’s Linkedin profile pointed to a “new IP”.

According to Grubb, they worked temporarily on two projects that have now been discontinued. They also supported the development of Halo Infinite and worked with Epic on the tech demo The Matrix Awakens.

“They canceled that smaller project and one other project, so there were two games canceled,” Grubb says. This is also reflected in the recent layoffs at Microsoft, which also affected The Coalition.

“The studio will now be fully focused on Gears 6. I’m saying now, but they’ve probably been fully focused on Gears 6 for the past year. It will definitely be their next game.”

The Coalition developed Gears of War 4 (2016) and Gears 5 (2019), as well as Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and Gears Tactics.

Netflix recently announced a number of Gears of War projects. A live-action film is planned, followed by an adult animated series and possible other projects.
