Gran Turismo 7 is not a graphics demo on PSVR 2, but fully playable – even with the DualSense

Sony’s new VR headset PSVR 2 will be launched at the end of February. In addition to the “native” launch lineup, a title that has been available since March of last year will also be playable in virtual reality. We’re talking about Gran Turismo 7, which will receive a corresponding update in time for the launch of PSVR 2.

Sony announced this last month at CES 2023, and since mid-January it has also been clear how extensive GT7’s PSVR 2 support will be. At that time, Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that all content of the title can be experienced in VR, i.e. all courses, modes and routes. However, there is one exception: 2 player split screen mode.

In Gran Turismo Sport, the predecessor of GT7, VR support was still limited. Although a lot of content could already be experienced in VR back then, it was not enough to cover the entire game.

According to the first impression, the almost perfect illusion

It’s clear that Gran Turismo 7 will be more than just a lame graphics demo that only highlights PSVR 2’s technical strengths. This impression underscores Ryan McCaffrey. The IGN journalist was able to test play the title and was quite impressed with the first impression.

According to McCaffrey, the illusion of sitting in a real car is almost perfect, and this impression is also supported by the game’s haptic feedback. In a video, he explains what else he has to say about his trial session:

Also with DualSense: The IGN journalist also confirms for the first time what many had hoped for and which we also firmly assumed: Gran Turismo 7 does not have to be played with the PSVR 2 controllers, instead the title can also be played with a “normal” controller, i.e. one Control DualSense, it is also possible to use a steering wheel.

So it sounds like GT7 could become a VR game, something not to be missed on Sony’s new hardware. In any case, we are now all the more excited about our first laps in GT7 VR.

Gran Turismo 7 was released on March 4th, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The VR update is not the first patch for the racing game, quite the opposite. Major updates are published almost every month, constantly expanding the fleet and route list.

PSVR 2 is scheduled for release on February 22nd. Colleague Basti was able to try out the hardware extensively last year. You can find his impressions in his big first impression of PSVR 2, in a separate article we have also listed all launch titles for PSVR 2.
