Konami: Metal Gear series sells 59.5 million copies

Dead Space Remake: The Return to the USG Ishimura

Metal Gear series sales have increased to 59.5 million copies.

The Japanese video game developer and publisher Konami has posted current sales figures for its game brands on its official website.

The figures show that since the first game in 1987, the Metal Gear franchise has grown from 59.3 to 59.5 million units sold.

This is surprising in that the older titles in the series are not playable on modern platforms. Except for emulations or the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

Fans are hoping for Metal Gear news this year.

In early January, producer Noriaki Okamura promised a year full of announcements and talked of long-awaited things.

It remains to be seen whether this also applies to the Metal Gear brand.
