Netflix seems to be planning comprehensive restrictions, but has withdrawn changes again.

Netflix wants to stop the account sharing practiced by many fans. It’s not allowed anyway, and hasn’t been for a long time. But now the group also wants to ensure that viewers follow the rules technically.

What could be in store for us has probably already been revealed in FAQ changes. However, they have already been reversed. Maybe a different solution will be found in the end.

Possibly soon drastic measures against account sharing

What’s the matter? Netflix itself tweeted years ago: Love is a password sharing. But that probably only applies to the group within its own four walls.

In the Netflix Terms of Service has always been that it is not allowed to share an account with people outside of one’s own household. It was made anyway, and en masse.

Now the many people who are not paying but are watching should get their hands on them, or rather their wallets. Netflix has been thinking more or less loudly and publicly about how for some time.

This was probably planned: A new subscription model should make it possible to add another person to the subscription for money who lives outside of one’s own household. This assumes, of course, that this can be verified.

To that end, Netflix arguably wanted to introduce a rule that requires all devices (even verified ones) to log into the account holder’s home Wi-Fi network and stream some Netflix content every 31 days. Otherwise there is a risk of being blocked.

At least that’s what it said for a short time in the NetflixFAQs. The notices have since been removed. There is no trace of the mandatory login every 31 days, blocked accounts or the possibility of adding people from outside the household (via: golem).

This is what it says now: In the current FAQs At the moment, the only talk is that devices used outside of one’s home may occasionally need to be verified via an emailed code – a kind of two-factor authentication.

Were the changes just too soon? Netflix may have miscalculated and accidentally revealed what is planned too early. Maybe the changes will come that way, but that’s not certain.

More on Netflix:

What does that mean? Unfortunately, that remains uncertain. We assume that Netflix is still working on taking action against the banned account sharing. But when and how exactly this will happen is not certain.

What do you think of this possibly upcoming edition? Would you be willing to pay more to share your account?
