Pokemon Go: Defeating Giovanni in February 2023 – Crypto Registeel – Counter Guide
February 3, 2023 update: That High Voltage Event in Pokémon Go has also brought about another acquisition of Team Go Rocket. This in turn means that not only the Bosses Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo send new Pokémon into battle, but also that you can wrestle a new Crypto Legendary from the boss Giovanni: Crypto Registeel. Which counters you should use in the fight to defeat Giovanni, we’ll tell you below in our updated counter guide.
In Pokémon Go, you can finally face off against Team Go Rocket Boss Giovanni again after showing Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra who the better trainer is in the Long Shadow Special Research and subsequent Special Research. You will then receive a Super Rocket Radar and can use it to search for Giovanni. Once you’ve located his position at a PokéStop near you, get down to business, because if you want to complete the current special research, Giovanni not only has to track down and fight in the Trainer Battle, but also defeat him.

Defeating Crypto Registeel in February 2023
- Pokemon #1: Always snobby
- Pokemon #2: Nidoking, Austos or Garchomp
- Pokemon #3: Always register
Remember: Since only the first and last fighters on Giovanni’s team are known, you may need to figure out the optimal team composition by triggering the second fighter!
- Defeat Snobilicate: Because you want to trigger at least one of Giovanni’s shields, and ideally two, you grab it Mostagrif with counterattack, balancing blow and stone edge, mahomey with counter, cross cut and stone hail, or despotary with catapult, cruncher and stone edge. At least there’s some overlap with the following Pokemon – Austos if you’re lucky, and Registeel in any case.
- Defeating Austos: Appropriately are Mostagrif with counterattack, balancing blow and stone edge, mahomey with counter, cross cut and stone hail, or despotary very effective against the battle shell with catapult, cruncher and stone edge.
- Defeat Nidoking: Against Nidoking you better choose ground and water attackers like rhyperior with clay clamp, rock thrower and surfer, Kyogre with Kaskade, Surfer and Blizzard, or Sumpex with clay shot, aqua howitzer and earthquake.
- Defeating Garchomp: As usual, dragons are effective against dragons. Relies on Brutalanda with dragon rod, tantrum and firestorm, dragonite with dragon rod, dragon claw and power colossus or arctic with Ice Shards and Ice Storm.
- Defeat Registeel: The Pokémon you used against Snobilikat are also good here. alternatives are Stalobor with clay shot, stone hail and percussion drill as well terracotta with double kick, sancto blade and stone hail.
Defeating Crypto Mewtwo in November 2022
Giovanni goes into battle against you with the following pocket monsters:
- Pokemon #1: Always snobby
- Pokemon #2: Nidoqueen, Steelix or Rihornior
- Pokemon #3: Always Mewtwo
Remember: Since only the first and last fighters on Giovanni’s team are known, you may need to figure out the optimal team composition by triggering the second fighter! Unfortunately, once again there is no overlap between the best counters for Snobilikat and the following fighters.
Defeat Snobilicate: Fighting-type Pokémon are your first choice for battle with Snobilikat. Most likely to grab Lucario with Counter, Progressive Slash and Aura Sphere. Alternatively also work Maskito with counterattack, increasing blow and power colossus or to Galarian Zapdos with Counter, Ancient Power and Swoop.
Defeat Nidoqueen: You exploit Nidoqueen’s weaknesses with either rock or psychic attacks. Grab it rhyperior with clay clamp, surfer and rock thrower, jirachi with confusion, psychokinesis or kismet desire or to hoopa with confusion, psychokinesis and haunted ball.
Defeat Steelix: Steelix is resilient, but can, among other things, with Zacian with lecture, melee and cuddle or with groudon be put in his place with clay shot, earthquake and fire blast. A low-cost attacker would also be Stalobor with clay shot, percussion drill and stone hail.
Defeat Rihornior: Against Rihornior you are well advised with plant or water attackers; approximately torture terrarar with razor blade, flora statue and stone edge, Kyogre with cascade and surfer or Sumpex with clay shot and hydrocannon.

Defeat Snobilicate: Because Snobilicate has a weakness to Fighting-type Pokémon, but its attacks are often Dark-type, you can rely on despotary with catapult as well as cruncher and stone edge, Terrakion with catapult and stone hail as well as melee or mahomey leave with counterattack and crosscut as well as stone hail. Anyway, you want to use this argument to tease out Giovanni’s shields.
Defeat Kramshef: In particular, electric and rock attacks put Kramshef to. Defeat Rihornior: Rhyperior’s weaknesses are dual to grass and water, single to ground, combat, ice, and steel. It makes sense to exploit these weaknesses, but best with counter-types that don’t take too much damage from him. It is suitable torture terrarar with shaving balt and Flora statue, Stalobor with clay shot and percussion drill as well Kyogre with cascade and surfer. Also Sumpex with clay shot and aqua howitzer is a good alternative.
Defeating Latias: Let’s get to the Pokémon you’re actually here for! As a Dragon Pokémon, Latias takes more damage from other dragons, among other things – but it can also use dragon attacks, so you should think twice about fighting Latias with a dragon. - Pokemon #2: Kingler, Rhyperior or Nidoking
- Pokemon #3: Always Lugia
Defeat Snobilicate: despotary is your best bet this time against snobilicate, with catapult, cruncher and stone edge. Snobilikat isn’t very good, so you can use Tyranitar to deplete Giovanni’s shields. You can also later against Despotar Lugia to use. Incidentally, the same applies to terracotta with catapult, stone hail and melee; that’s even a bit stronger against Lugia.
Defeat Kingler or Rhyperior: Use Giovanni Kingler or rhyperior is in both cases torture terrarar with razor blade and flora statue a very good choice. Defeat Lugia: To fight against Giovanni’s Lugia we have already recommended a few counters to you: Raikou with voltage changes and surges of electricity, terracotta with catapult and stone hail, despotary with catapult, stone edge and cruncher.
